Hula Party
With an episode of Hi-5 the culprit, when my soon-to-be 4 year old daughter announced she wanted a Hula Party, I loved the party theme idea and instantly had easy party decorations and perfect food ideas.
I bought a bunch of decorations from the Look Sharp Store which is my absolute favourite source of party decorations, craft and party supplies. I also wanted to make sure that I wasn't running around like a mad thing just before the start of the party like I usually do and so I planned things that could be done well in advance.
We served
* Ham & Cheese Sliders
* Samoan-style Raw Fish (‘Oka)
* Pina Colada Cupcakes
* Bananarama Cupcakes
* Individual No Bake Pineapple Cheesecakes
* Individual Layered Jelly Cups
* Rice Krispy Pops
* Watermelon Pops (easy and super effective)
* A Tropical Fruit Platter
* Pineapple Lumps
Most of our guests came dressed in theme, but I bought lots of leis for those who had forgotten or didn’t have a costume and this instantly brightened up the crowd and ensured everyone was looking the part. We even had themed games with “Pin the Flower on the Hula Girl”, a “Tropical Pass the Parcel” and a Hula Dancing competition. We had themed music playing in the background throughout the party courtesy of Pandora (do you have this app? – best invention ever!) which made the island themed festivities even more realistic.
And to close the entire celebration, our very own Rarotongan Princess joined us after the party had wound down and performed a real Hula dance for Miss T, which was a major treat. She was supposed to join in and show her skills too, but as you can see, she was much too shy and (I think) in awe of her mentor.
