Book of the Week: The Wheels on the Bus

Kiwi style!

15 November 2010

We all know The Wheels on the Bus. Popular? That’s an understatement I would think. I was one of those parents determined to never add ‘kids songs’ to my repertoire, but the Wheels on the Bus was the first song to prove me wrong, and it’s a definite favorite with my two little ones, and will actually stop either of them crying (although I still haven’t managed to get myself to break out in song in the middle of the mall or supermarket, no matter how extreme the breakdown).

Illustrator Donovan Bixley has now given the song a kiwi-style makeover in his latest book, The Wheels on the Bus. The story takes the bus from Cape Reinga to Milford Sound, and is full of kiwi icons and landmarks.

Due out this month, keep an eye out at your local bookstore. We’ll update you once it’s available online. In the meantime, keep the kids occupied on the next rainy day with Donovan’s free The Wheels on the Bus colouring-in download.
