monitors

Your baby monitor should provide you with peace of mind.  Many parents use them to give them the freedom to go about their daily tasks while their baby is sleeping without worrying about whether or not their baby has woken up or needs them.  Some monitors include the extra reassurance of having a movement monitor built-in for extra peace of mind.

Things you might need to consider are:
  • Do other babies live nearby from whose baby monitors yours might experience interference?
  • Do you feel that you need extra assurances such as a movement detector or a 'baby cam'?
  • How will you use the monitor?  Does it need to have a belt clip and the ability to operate on batteries?
  • Do you want to have your monitor take care of other functions, such as providing you with a nightlight and/or room temperature reading?

We also recommend asking your friends about the monitors they have used.  We've found some monitors experience high levels of background interference or have problems dealing with power surges and are best plugged into multiboards with power surge protection built in.

To see all of the baby monitors we have featured, have a look at our sleep archives.

We recommend you read the information from Consumer NZ (links below) before making the decision as to which monitor you will purchase.
