Scone Peapods

Peapods would have to be one of the cutest and most delicious vegetables around!  Have fun these holidays creating a scone version!! They're also a great way to slip some veges into your kids' food - bah ha ha!! Some kids may find the cayenne pepper a bit spicy so just miss this out if it's not for your family.

scone peapods

Ingredients

2 cups flour
2½ tsp baking powder
Pinch cayenne pepper
50 gms butter
1 cup grated cheese
½ tsp salt
½ tsp celery salt
Up to 1 cup green pea milk (blend 1½ cups of spinach with 1 cup milk)
Extra milk for brushing

For peapod face : piping bag / marmite

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.  Grease a cookie tray with butter.

2. Mix flour, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl.

3. Rub in butter (hint: use your fingertips) until mixture looks like grains of sand.

4. Stir in cheese.  Add green pea milk, stir in gently till combined.

5. For the peapod look:

A) For the pod - Split dough in half.

On a floured board roll out one half to 1 cm thick. Cut out circles (10 cm diameter)

B) For the peas - with remaining dough roll into small balls (marshmallow size)

C) brush milk over circles then place 3 balls (peas) in a line, down center of circle. (Brush milk on sides of peas so stick together)

D). Pinch ends together (to form a canoe shape). Bring dough up on the sides and stick to peas.

7. To cook bake Peapods on their side (to keep the peapod shape)

8. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown on top.

9. When cool pipe on a face with marmite.
