DVD Review: The Muppets (2011)It’s time to play the music...1 June 2012![]() The basic story line of The Muppets (2011) goes something like this: Walter is a boy... Well, he’s a Muppet but he thinks he’s a boy! His best friend is played by Jason Segel (Gary), and they are pretty much tied at the hip. A trip to LA, along with Gary’s girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) sees Walter uncovering the plot of an evil oil tycoon to tear down the unused Muppet Theatre... The Muppets are sort and reunited for a Telethon style show in an attempt to save the theatre. While the first few minutes were completely lost on them and a little at risk of being rejected in favour of the Lego box, from the first breakout into song, my kids were completely enthralled with this movie. The storyline goes pretty much the way you expect it to – a couple of little bizarre throw ins (nothing like good old Jack Black being kidnapped ninja style to shake things up) – but, it is a kids movie, and you wouldn’t really expect anything too complex for them to follow, and a happy ending is a must. What does make the movie are the musical components (seriously, was anyone not an Annie fan in their own time?), the celebrity line up (Jason Segal and Amy Adams both rock, and there are a number of cameo appearances), and that quality child friendly attractiveness that the Muppets possess – even 30 years down the track. Overall rating, I give this one a 5 out of 5 – the kids loved it, and have continued to ask for it, and it was really watchable and enjoyable for the adult contingency too. I’ve included the You Tube trailer below – well worth a watch in itself! If you head to The Muppets website from Disney, you’ll find everything Muppet, including wallpaper downloads and activities, including how to make Muppet cake pops! (I see a few Muppet parties coming this way in the near future!) Want to see what else we’ve roadtested? Check out our review section. |
