new baby checklist

Deciding what you need to buy for baby when pregnant can be a daunting experience.  We've tried to make this a little easier for you with our new baby checklist - what you'll need for the first few months.  If you're saving or budgeting out your costs, don't forget to put money aside for what they'll need a few months down the track - highchairs, feeding products, toys, clothes etc.  And don't forget to have a read of our advice to get information and checklists on what to look for when buying specific products.

  • 4-6 bottles (slow-flow teat)
  • 1 sterlizer & brush
  • 10+ bibs

  • 1 bouncer/rocker
  • 1 play gym or mat
  • 1 baby frieze
  • wooden baby rattle
  • sense stimulating toys

sleep necessities

  • 2 fitted sheets (bassinette and/or cot)
  • 2 sleeping bags or flat sheets & 3+ blankets
  • 2+ wraps
  • 2 mattress protectors
  • wool underlay

  • 1 safe t sleep
  • 2 + extra flat sheets to fold and use as 'spill' catchers
  • extra blankets (can be used on cold nights)
  • cotton/bamboo/muslin wraps
  • safe, temperature controlled heater
  • fan for warm weather

  • 4+ playsuits or top & pant sets
  • 2+ jumpers or cardigans

Unless you know you are having a particularly small baby, we recommend buying size 000 (0-3 months) clothes to start withWe recommend buying a mix of cotton or bamboo and merino or wool items.

  • laundry bucket with lid
  • wool wash and sensitive washing powder/liquid
