Handmade Heaven: Easy craft sewing tutorialsA beginner’s heavenAimee Brock10 May 2011 Sewing or crafting with fabric is becoming cool again, as the range of quality imported fabrics grow and young Mums try to create a ‘unique’ look or encourage old-fashioned play and role modelling. Myself, I adore fabric – the colours, the prints, the texture, the possibilities! Luckily, through my business I am lucky enough to have access to a massive range of wholesale and imported 100% cotton quilting fabrics; and I also still visit Spotlight and knit/merino fabric shops regularly as a retail customer, to make clothing or interior design products for my family. Because I can’t throw out my fabric scraps, I have plastic bins upon plastic bin of fabric remnants and cut offs sitting in storage that I eventually find little craft projects for. So when I saw this awesome round up of 24 craft projects you can make with fabric scraps on Make It Love It – I was in seventh heaven! If you’re just getting started in sewing and making small crafts sounds like you, have a go! To gather up a range of fabric scraps, visit Spotlight or a quilting or specialty fabric store; or buy ‘grab bags’ or ‘fat quarters’ from New Zealand online fabric shops such as Sew Pretty, Sew Addictive Fabrics, Stitchbird Fabrics or Thumpacat Fabrics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() About the author: Aimee Brock is a life-long admirer of handmade crafts and gifts, and recently started her own handmade children’s label, lily pad designs. |
