The Art Room

Whimsical Prints

Last month (ed: March 2) was the 107th birthday of Dr Seuss and reading all about that has set me down the road of admiring hand-drawn or ‘cartoon’ representative children’s art this month. So spying these gorgeous screen prints from North Shore, Auckland artist Hayley from The Art Room was a very happy coincidence. It was the colours that struck me first: the orange lion in particular, then the lime-yellow seal – they would make a real focal point in any child’s room or a family room. Hayley’s website also has to be one of the coolest website’s I’ve seen recently – using fun ‘art frames’ on a cool Dr. Seuss-type yellow drawn wall to introduce her range. Each screen print comes from a limited edition set of 36, all signed and numbered, and are printed by hand on quality 285gsm Italian Fabriano printing paper.
