Nature Baby, long time stewards of health and wellbeing for babies, are generously offering a bottle swap where attendees can “dump” (for recycling) their used plastic baby bottles at one of their Auckland stores and go home with a brand new FREE Green to Grow baby bottle which is guaranteed not to contain toxic nasties such as BPA, PVC and phthalates.

“Of course breast is best!” says founder of Nature Baby and mother of three Georgia Faull, “but there are times when a bottle needs to be used and we wanted to make sure that we always carry baby bottles that are no threat to infant health”.

“Parents both here and across the world have been made very anxious recently by the wealth of scientific research coming both from within NZ and abroad which exposes the dangers of toxins leaching from plastics especially when plastics are heated - something parents do on a daily basis”.

BPA is a carcinogen and hormone disruptor which has been linked with early puberty, diabetes and hyperactivity in children. It is found in polycarbonate plastics which until recently were most commonly used to manufacture baby bottles.

University of Auckland’s Professor Murray Mitchell published his findings on the issue, which show that even low levels of BPA can be passed from pregnant mothers to their unborn babies via the placenta. Mitchell is calling for a complete ban on BPA, which is currently outlawed in countries such as Denmark, Canada and parts of the U.S.

Leading NZ toxicology scientist from the University of Canterbury Ian Shaw says “It’s crucially important to decrease the amount of BPA from New Zealander’s diets. Of particular concern are the developing organs of young babies who are more susceptible and less able to dispel toxins from their bodies.”

This wealth of information at hand has lead parents to ask - What else is in my baby’s bottle?

Apparently more than just milk. Some plastics have also been found to contain polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and phthalates. Both of these uninvited guests have been charged with leaching out of plastic.

So give your self peace of mind and head along to one of Nature Baby’s two Auckland stores at 433 Richmond Rd Grey Lynn or 4 Morgan St Newmarket on September 29 & 30 (2 days only) – and get rid of your old untrustworthy baby bottle and get yourself a FREE new clean and green one from Green to Grow, which is made from high quality, safe, non polycarbonate plastic and comes with a nitrosamine free silicon teat, is dishwasher safe, and comes packaged in recycled materials to continue with the ecologically friendly message.
