Handmade Heaven: Five6
Sweet berry delight WrapsAimee Brock

Pinnafores and wraps are making a comeback as the trend for little girls to wear leggings and skinny jeans continues. So when I saw these modern, yet innocent, fun funky ‘fruity’ print wraps made from 100% designer fabrics I immediately thought how neat it was to see something both mum and child would covet.
The gorgeous fabric choices from international textile design houses such as Robert Kaufman (Strawberries from the Metro Market collection) are completely on trend for the coming warm seasons – where we’ll see loads of 100% cotton fabrics from the US coming through in fruity patterns, florals and ‘treasures’ like ballerinas, fairies and butterflies and the already popular Babushka dolls. There’s a real trend towards ‘simple, traditional’ styles particularly in the quilting and craft worlds.
For children, it’s not about the trend, it’s about the luscious, yummy colours (not to mention the recent comeback in popularity of the Strawberry Shortcake dolls).
For mums, it’s also about the fresh summer colours but also about well-cut, well designed items, and Five6’s wraps are just that.
Designed to be versatile, Five6’s wrap can be worn as a short dress in summer over leggings and in winter just pop a long sleeve top and some jeans underneath. They wrap around and tie at the back, so it can be tightened if it is a little big at first and then extended out as your child grows.
The origins of the name Five6 is also a cute story. The designer’s daughter apparently has two imaginary friends – Five6 (not five and six) – who have the most amazing adventures, flying on a plane to the beach with their cousins Tom and Gus.
