Roadtested: Bugalug

Simple accessories that stay in place

4 June 2010

The lovely ladies from Bugalug were nice enough to send us some of their hair accessories to put through the ropes.

The main bug-bear about kids hair accessories is simply that they fall out.  Or are uncomfortable to wear, so get pulled out.  Either way, they don't end up sitting there looking pretty the way they are supposed to.

Not the case with Bugalug.  The barrette style clips are cute little alternatives to the usual snap clips we see around the place, and are really designed for keeping the hair clipped back.  In other words, perfect for toddlers like mine who's fringe sits almost permanently in her eyes.  Sure enough, with their 'non-slip silicone grip' the little barrettes stayed exactly where they were supposed to...  well, until she pulled them out and insisted on putting them in mine instead!

The headbands are simple pieces of high quality ribbon with a toggle type adjustment to make them the right size to fit the head they're on.  As long as you get them sitting right when you put them on, they stay there quite happily, and I have to admit, the simple ribbon is quite striking.

They also sent us some pony loops (that would be ponytail holders for us).  Available in a range of cute designs to suit, they definitely did their job, and despite being pulled and stretched every which way (to ensure adequate testing of course!) they didn't break.

All in all, Bugalug are quite impressive in the quality stakes.  Unfortunately they haven't actually made their way to NZ shores yet, but are available online from Canada.  Check out the Bugalug Baby website for more details.
